1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper.
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire’s nest mates.
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero.
Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

The Undead: Playing for Keeps Excerpt - Chapter 2 : Eric

“Of all the places,” I mutter. Cornfields and pastures fill the passenger side window

in a tortuous repeat. Mile after mile of nothingness. And inactivity. And boredom.

“I’m in a small hellhole located in the middle of can’t-find-it-on-a-fucking-map. This

is just perfect.”

I pull over and my headlights frame the tall green sign that proclaims the city limits

for Martin. A thatch of dead grass surrounds the base of the pole.

“Bet that resembles the residents of this fine town,” I shout. No one’s ever around

to hear me or respond.

I roll down the window and the scent of grass and dirt rolls in. There’s no exhaust,

no cigarette smoke. The purity of the air confuses my lungs.

Just hours ago, I was in the beautiful and busy paradise of Miami, Florida, where

anger, envy, and sin pollute every taken breath and every exposed mind. It’s one of

my favorite places. There’s enough activity there to keep someone busy every hour

of the day, which is why I want to return. Idle time has painful effects.

Only one car passes while I’m parked on the shoulder, contemplating my purgatory

that now goes by the name of Martin.

The passenger handle clicks and the door opens. Deon lowers his head and peers

in. “Heard you were coming.” He smiles and the dashboard lights give his teeth a red

glow. “Welcome to Martin.”

 I shrug. “Yeah. I’m here.”

“So why you?” he asks, his smile not fading.

“Beats the hell out of me.” Exhaust mixes with the night air and enters through the

open car door. I take a deep breath.

“No, seriously, this is my territory. Why you?”

I survey my new terrain. Moonlight reveals more nothingness. “I’m not fighting you

for it. I was sent. I didn’t have a choice.”

“No one really has a choice.” He slips his frail frame into the passenger seat and

closes the door.

 “What are you doing?”

“Going for a ride.” He taps the dash twice. “I’ll show you around.”

Understanding the territory will help. I pull back onto the road and my headlights

only compete with the moon’s glow until we get closer to civilization. If you can call

this actual civilization.

 “You’re here as a punishment, aren’t you?”

“Judging by the look of this place, I’d say yeah.”

Deon laughs and adjusts the navy ball cap he wears low on his head. “Everyone

knows about you.”

“Really?” I want to take back the word, or rather, my tone. It sounded as if I was

interested.

“You’re too messy and over-the-top. You attract attention. And you’re

undisciplined.”

 I huff. “You finished?

Interview with Elsie Elmore, author of The Undead: Playing for Keeps

What led you to write YA paranormal and corpses becoming reanimated?

Explaining my warped creative process is challenging because the stories I tend to

create all begin with “What if?” That simple question can take me down a rabbit

hole of possibilities and I never worry about whether an idea is plausible. In my

mind, the boundary for reality is permeable.

The Undead started as a “what if” after a personal experience. The story then

began to unfold in my mind, but it never ventured near The Walking Dead, which

is a series I was addicted to once. I wanted the return to be less problematic and

gory than the zombies in the apocalyptic stories.

Are the characters in The Undead based on real people?

Every character I create comes from bits and pieces of people that I’ve

encountered, but no one person translates into a full character in one of my stories.

At least not yet.

Does Eric play the guitar because you play the guitar?

No, Eric plays the guitar because he’s a gifted musician and because I think the

guitar is one of the coolest instruments a guy can play. I took piano lessons for

several years as a child, but I would not impress anyone with the skills that have

remained after all those years.

Is The Undead a series?

I wrote The Undead as a stand alone, although the door was left slightly ajar at

the end. While Lyla, Eric and Ben’s tale could go on, it will be up to the reader to

determine what happens next.

What’s your favorite genre to read?

I like so many different types of fiction. I have specific favorite books and favorite

authors that span romance, action, drama, suspense, and memoir (and for adult,

NA, and YA audiences).

Zombie Romance; Death-Style

Well, I do. And so do a bunch of other peeps, apparently. Zombie fiction isn't all post-apocalyptic, disease carrying, mindless brain eaters. (Some of my zombies do get distracted by a tidy meal of brains.

As I write this, FOR the LOVE of DEATH is getting ready to blow up on Amazon for all the
hordes of readers to descend and devour.

Is the Death Series about zombie love? Oh yes. But it's a bunch of other things too. It's dystopian.

Dark fantasy ( a soft sort of horror, but horror nonetheless). Death is also suspenseful, witty and coming-of-age. My main demographic of readers is females ages 25-34. After that? It's post-60. Isn't that something? I never thought a teen male-POV would interest anyone except... you got it: a teen

male-POV. Then Death got its teeth in the readers. Guys discovered it, middle-aged women (I'm one of those so no diss there, girls), teens and older people. Yes, I said elderly. They read and everything.

(That's tongue in cheek, lest I get hate mail.)

What makes Death different? For starters, it's male POV. And there's just not much lit out there that is. There's even less from a teen boy's POV. I didn't know any better. I have four sons who complained endlessly about all the “drivel” of chicks who thought they could write like a guy thought.

So this chick thought: why not? It's certainly harder to speak from a teen girl's POV as there aren't any of them galloping around the house. I went for it, and the rest is history.

I thought I'd “grow” the teens through high school and be done at book six. But they kept talking, and readers kept asking for Death (I love how that sounds). Now they're all grown up with some kids of their own. It's a futuristic setting so I've taken liberties with some of the characters as you'll see if you begin the Death odyssey. I know it's a little weird, but my fave character is the MC's grandpa,

“Gramps.” You ever meet anyone that knows who they are to the marrow? And they're simply
indifferent to change or compromise? Filter-less? Yes, that's Mac O'Brien. And I simply can't seem to “retire” him. I also adore the MC zombie, Clyde. He died in a post-depression America and has not let his principles slide. He and Mac get along great.

I threw romance in Death #7, parallel earths, horror, action, comedic dialog, agony, drama and suspense. The pace is fierce (I guess I'm not terrific at slow pacing), and some resolution takes place, along with questions.

Does Deegan's zombie survive? Will Paxton save his Gram? Is Brad Thompson and his dad going  to corrupt another earth through Zombie slaving? It's a new earth with the same problems. Where there's power, there is also greed. I had a terrific time writing Death. So much so, I'm already devising a

Death 8. Since Death 7 is a spin-off; a case of the “stales” shall not be had.

Book one, Death Whispers, is currently in audio production and I have to say, it was in the top  ten surreal experiences of my life to listen to my own words. What I really got out of listening is  how mature DW is in some respects. It captures the changes teens experience on the chasm of near-
adulthood. Death began as a YA crossover series and is now firmly in the new adult/adult genre. Fans of dystopian, hard sci-fi, paranormal romance, fantasy and action with snappy dialog should dig death.

If you're looking for a unique narrative, jam-packed with action and fast pacing, Death just might be for you. Especially for if you have a crush on zombies....

(20Something #3)
Publication date: October 10th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

Fall in love like a 20 Something….
23 year old Kenley Moran is going through a mid-life crisis… WAY early. Pushed since childhood by a nightmare stage-mom to use her looks to “land a rich man”, she’s reeling from a broken engagement and regretting the day she gave up her career in TV news for a guy.
Now Kenley’s determined to change her life, shunning makeup and fashion and fighting her way back into the highly competitive career she loves, off-camera this time. When she lands a producing job at Worldwide News Network in Atlanta, she plans to keep her head down, work hard, and prove she’s not just another pretty face. And vows NO ONE is EVER going to make her compromise herself again.
WNN anchor Larson Overstreet has it all—old money, good looks, a prestigious job, and more women than he can count throwing themselves at him. Problem is… none of it is real. He’s known his whole life that people are only interested in him for his fortune and his famous family name, in that order. Except for Kenley. The shy news producer isn’t interested in him at all.
Working closely with the anchor of her new show, Kenley’s dismayed to feel an instant spark. Larson’s everything she doesn’t want. He’s too good looking, too charming, and worst of all, too rich. She’s not looking for another big money honey. In fact, she’d prefer a nice little guy from the mailroom, maybe a guy who lives at home like she’s been forced to do.
But when they must travel together for a special report, Kenley realizes Larson’s not the spoiled pretty rich boy she pegged him as, and she’s not as immune to him as she’s pretended to be.
Now, even at the network level, what happens behind the scenes is the real story.

Cover Reveal: One Song Away

BOOK & AUTHOR INFO:

One Song Away by Molli Moran
Publication date: December 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
She needs a fill-in boyfriend. He needs a favor. It's the perfect, no-strings arrangement -- until they both realize it's too real...

Sophie-Claire Wright's life is like a bad country song on repeat. She keeps running into her cheating ex, her songwriting career isn't taking off, and to make matters worse, her roommate just kicked her out of their apartment. With nothing to lose, she decides to do the one thing she said she'd never do: she moves back home. She left her small Southern town with big dreams, but now she's going home with empty pockets.

Life moves at a slower pace in Sophie’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it hometown, but her well-meaning, matchmaking mother doesn't have a slow gear. She invents a boyfriend to hold off her mother's efforts, but she’s out of luck when her mom wants to meet Sophie’s boyfriend. Sophie panics until she runs into Jake Cooper. Her high school crush is back in town, too, and when he asks her for a favor, she agrees -- on one condition. He says he'll be her fill-in boyfriend, so it should be simple: introduce him to her family and then "break up" with him after a few weeks.

Sophie is sure she'll be able to resist Jake this time and that their fake relationship will keep them both away from wagging tongues. Just because she was in love with him years ago doesn't mean she'll fall for him again now, right? But she didn't bargain for moments that feel all too genuine. Dates that don't seem fake. And she didn't count on old feelings resurfacing and complicating their arrangement —- which is starting to feel less like acting and more like the real deal.

Soon, Sophie can't tell which kisses are real or fake -- but she knows she's in deep. When she gets a chance to go back to Nashville and chase her dreams again, she has a choice to make: stay or go? Continue hoping that the life she wants is one song away, or write her own?

I'm in my thirties and living in New Zealand. About 2 years ago I lost somebody very close to me. I was lucky in a way, I was given enough time to make a promise. My promise was that I would never forget our young and innocent love, and it's a promise I intend to keep.

My writing is a way to help me keep that promise. I've always enjoyed writing but was forced into being 'prudent' and giving myself over to soul-crushing office work for the sake of a steady salary. Recent events forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and I decided to take a chance. I like to put little pieces of 'us' into my writing, from funny conversations we had, to apocalyptic arguments, to that special feeling you get when you hop into bed fully aware that your feet are freezing but your partner doesn't kick you away.

Even though these things are set in fictional worlds and attached to fictional characters, in a way it feels like I'm doing something that will make our love live forever. If somebody reads one of my stories and likes a joke or sheds a tear, then our love has lived on, and I thank any readers I might have for that.

Excerpt 3
No sooner had I walked out the door than I heard footsteps from behind. Fear surfaced inside me as the terrors of my past came rushing back. I slipped around the corner and waited. Soon enough, a form drew closer as I watched its shadow through the street lights glide across the pavement. I positioned myself and brought my leg out in front of me as the shadow person walked past. This caused him to trip and fall flat on his face. Familiar tufts of chestnut hair crashed forward, “Bub? Oh, I’m so sorry. I thought maybe...nevermind. Why are you following me?” I asked as I offered my hand to help him up. His nose was bloody. It seemed my self defense skills had that effect on people, I thought, remembering when I threw Halette over my shoulder in Paris, twice.
He took my hand and sheepishly said, “I just think you’re beautiful and wanted to know you better.” Ay yi yi, what was it with men?
“Alright, look, I feel bad and your nose is bleeding. I’ll buy you a drink,” I offered.
His face lit up and a huge smile creased his lips as blood slowly trickled down his chin. “That’d be nice.”
I bought him a drink while the bartender readied a rag and ice for his nose. “It might be broken,” I said, feeling pangs of guilt.
The bartender, a young dark haired woman with surreal emerald eyes, chuckled as she said, “He’ll be okay. At least once a week he incurs the wrath of one young lady or another.”
“So you’re a lady chaser and I was the menu for tonight?” I asked Bub.

Cleo Unplugged - Interview

Q- What is your name?

A-      My name is Cleo, that was Einstein’s name for me. Currently, I go by the name Shanna. In the past, I have also used the name Justine. I hope to go back to Cleo legally. As far as my birth name I have yet to find that out.

Q-  What are your hobbies?

A-      I enjoy cooking. My mom never did and we lived off hot dogs, grilled cheese and anything out of a can or box, yuck! Then I spent some years on the streets and ate anything that was edible. It was that or starve. Once my life settled down with Einstein I decided to start meddling in our kitchenette and learned to create art out of food.

Q-  Out of the various places you’ve lived do you have a favorite?

A-      It seems I’ve spent my life running from everything and some unseen but known danger that surrounds me. I enjoyed living in Paris and learning about a new culture. I love San Francisco. It’s a beautiful city. At night, everything sparkles and the hills seem to call my name. Most of all I have met the best people In S.F. that I could ever hope to meet. They say the home is where the heart and my heart belongs to Kacy and La Tige. Fetch is another story.

Q- A question I’m curious about and I know others are as well. It’s personal so I hope you don’t mind giving us some insight. You keep meeting dream men and yet you always leave them, why?
A-      That is personal but I’ll answer it. I don’t really know. I’m still heartbroken over Einstein he’s always on my mind but I have accepted our fate so that’s not it. The men I meet just aren’t right or the timing is all wrong. I need to understand my roots first before I go plunging into a relationship that may end up with children. So maybe one day when I’m ready the right man will come along.

Q- You spent your youth homeless; what advice do you have for other kids with similar circumstances?
A-      Always observe your surroundings and don’t trust everyone. There are too many people out there who want to use children on the streets. I survived because I learned them quickly. I stuck to myself and my senses were always on alert. I wasn’t afraid to stand up for myself or too ashamed to run when I needed. In fact, I ran a lot, most of the time. I wouldn’t suggest breaking and entering. I feel bad for many of my crimes, even though it was survival.

Q- You encountered a huge change in lifestyle when you went to Paris yet you didn’t let it go to your head. How did you manage that?
A-      I spent most my time hiding out. When I had to face the crowds, I was paparazzi shy. I hated their cameras always blinding me. The wealth was great but never was it mine; Didier is a kind and generous man. I never saw any of it as permanent. My life has always been one of transition.

Q- What accomplishment are you most proud of in your life?
A-      The fact that I’m still here and thriving.

Q- You are on a quest to find answers to your past and a family you never knew you had. What would you say to them if they were here now?
A-      A few very unchoice words.. I’m curious about them but have no plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. I want to know what went through their knuckle heads to bring such a life as mine onto an innocent baby. They will get a piece of my mind when I’m sure who they are. They might as well save face and not use any excuses.

Q-  Describe yourself in three words?
A-      Determined, scared, persistant
